With real estate in Breckenridge Colorado Having one of the best and most visited ski resorts in the United States, Breckenridge Colorado provides the active person’s dream lifestyle. With world class skiing in the winter and mountain biking, hiking, fishing and water sports in the summer it is a true outdoorsman’s paradise.
Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountain’s Breckenridge provides breath taking views, the smell of fresh Rocky Mountain air and the ability to get away from it all. A small “Kingdom” Breckenridge was first settled and established during the gold rush and the movement to California. With gold being found in the mountains, and the largest piece found in Colorado, it was natural for the miners to set up small towns, in which, Breckenridge was born. The summer of 1859, is when Breckenridge was born. Gold was found along the blue River that flows through the heart of town, now the main mining base camps no longer exist, but you can find over 300 historic buildings throughout town.
One of the most recognizable buildings in downtown Breckenridge is the Gold pan Saloon. The Gold Pan is the longest operational saloon west of the Mississippi River. It is also said that, the Gold Pan is the only bar that remained open during prohibition. On 103 North Main Street you can still come in and see the original bar and ceilings from the 1800’s.
The kingdom instead of town of Breckenridge was created when map makers for the United States involuntarily left Breckenridge off maps that were created. From that day forth Breckenridge was not a town but a kingdom. The mistake was not found out until almost a half century later, but the town and it’s residents embraced the name and continue to recognize it as the “Kingdom of Breckenridge.”
July 27, 1961 the entire town shifted into a new winter sport that was taking fire. After only having 398 residents of Breckenridge the town almost became extinct. The Rounds and Porter Lumber Company more or less saved Breckenridge, having a permit issued to create a ski area. December 16, 1961 the landscape would forever change the high country. Almost 17,000 skiers visited Breckenridge the first year, a healthy amount considering Interstate 70 was not through Summit County yet. 1981 Breckenridge became the WORLD’S first ski resort with a four person high speed chairlift, forever changing the ski industry and igniting the high speed quad revolution.
Today at roughly five square miles Breckenridge is still a slice of heaven. With about 5,000 year round residents it is a perfect community to live in. With the ski industry booming, and many visitors in the winter as well as summer this place is recession proof. With the desire to be a home owner or a second home owner the real estate market is steady and climbing in the Mountain Resorts. This is truly a piece of heaven and people of Breckenridge and the surrounding Summit County towns know how lucky we are to be located here.
